Cuan Mhuire Golf Classic supported by Ballsbridge Lions Club

On October 10th, 2025, the spirit of community came alive at Powerscourt Golf Club in Enniskerry, as 17 teams gathered for the Cuan Mhuire Athy Charity Golf Day, organised by the Ballsbridge Lions Club to raise funds for one of Ireland’s largest voluntary addiction recovery centres.

A day of sport, joy and purpose

Registration began at 12 p.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start on the West Course of Powerscourt Golf Club. The 17 teams, each made up of four players, filled the fairways with energy, laughter and determination in pursuit of the perfect shot.

The event was a true celebration of community and generosity. Players and supporters alike enjoyed a friendly but competitive atmosphere that blended sport, purpose and fun. When the final putt dropped, everyone gathered for the evening’s speeches and presentations, which highlighted both the success of the day and the cause behind it.

Words of gratitude and hope

The ceremony opened with remarks from Farrell O’Boy, President of the Ballsbridge Lions Club, and Ian McLoughlin, who both expressed their gratitude to Powerscourt Golf Club for hosting the event and to all participants for their unwavering support.

A particularly emotional moment came when Patrick Ward, a former participant of Cuan Mhuire Athy, shared his personal story of recovery, a powerful reminder of the real impact the organisation has on people’s lives.

Following his testimony, Nicola Kelly, manager of Cuan Mhuire Athy, presented the mission of the organization, detailing the centre’s work in helping individuals overcome addiction through compassion, structure and long-term rehabilitation.

Fun, prizes and community spirit

The evening continued with a lively auction and prize ceremony that kept everyone engaged and smiling. Among the five auction prizes were:

  • A 4-ball golf tournament package
  • Two nights at Woodland Hideaway in Leitrim Village for six people
  • One week of accommodation in Alicante, Spain
  • Two tickets to the Ireland vs Australia rugby match

Tournament winners were also honoured for their performance:

  • 🥇 1st Place: 4-ball in Tipperary + overnight accommodation
  • 🥈 2nd Place: 4-ball in Powerscourt
  • 🥉 3rd Place: 2-ball in Dun Laoghaire

The night concluded with a shared dinner, where participants celebrated the success of the event with laughter, friendship and a shared sense of purpose helping those most in need.

“It was a wonderful day of sport and solidarity,” said Farrell O’Boy, President of the Ballsbridge Lions Club. “The support we received shows how strong our community is when we come together for a cause that truly changes lives.”

Impact and legacy

The event raised over €16,000 in total. After covering operational costs, 100% of the remaining funds will be donated directly to Cuan Mhuire Athy. This contribution will help sustain the centre’s ongoing programmes and provide critical support to more individuals seeking recovery from addiction.
